Spain Public Holidays 2027
Which days are public holidays in 2027 across Spain and in each autonomous community (region), and how many working days are left in each one.
Quick answer
- •Spain has 9 public holidays nationwide in 2027. Each region's own holidays bring the total to 12 (11 in the Canary Islands, plus each island's own holiday), and every municipality sets up to 2 local holidays of its own.
- •Easter (Semana Santa) falls early, with holidays on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 March.
- •1 May and 25 December fall on a Saturday. 15 August falls on a Sunday, and six regions take Monday 16 off instead.
- •The bridge days shared across Spain are Monday 11 October (except in Extremadura, where it is already a holiday) and Tuesday 7 December. A bridge day (puente) is a working day sandwiched between two days off, which many people take as holiday.
- •2027 has 261 weekdays. Take out the public holidays and you are left with 251 or 252 working days, depending on the region, before subtracting the 2 local holidays.

2027 holidays that fall on a weekend
1 May and 25 December fall on a Saturday. As national holidays, they are not moved to another day. In several collective disputes in 2026, Spain's National High Court (Audiencia Nacional) recognised the right to a day off in lieu when the holiday falls on a Saturday that is already a rest day. The rulings can still be appealed and the Supreme Court has yet to settle the issue. We cover this in whether you get a day back when a holiday falls on a Saturday.
15 August is a Sunday. Under Article 37.2 of the Workers' Statute (Spain's main employment law), the day off moves to Monday, and that is what Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla y León and Madrid do. Extremadura moves it to 11 October and the other regions replace it with a holiday of their own.
La Diada in Catalonia (11 September) and Valencian Community Day (9 October) also fall on a Saturday. There is more detail in which 2027 holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday.
Bridge days in 2027
12 October is a Tuesday, so Monday 11 October sits between the weekend and the holiday. In Extremadura that Monday is already a holiday.
6 December is a Monday and 8 December is a Wednesday. Tuesday 7 December falls in between, so taking it off gives you an unbroken break from Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8.
Friday 1 January, Easter and Monday 1 November also make long weekends. Each region also has its own bridge days, such as Friday 8 October in the Basque Country, Friday 25 June in Catalonia and Friday 28 May in Castilla-La Mancha.
The 2 local holidays in each municipality
On top of its region's holidays, each municipality sets up to 2 local holidays. They are paid and the hours do not have to be made up (Article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983). They are not published in the BOE but in each region's or province's official gazette, usually in the last few months of the previous year (some, such as the Canary Islands, as early as the summer).
That is why two workplaces in the same region can have different calendars. Before you finalise a workplace's calendar, add the local holidays of the municipality where it is based, not those of the company's registered office.
Your company must have its own work calendar
Article 34.6 of the Workers' Statute requires every company to draw up its own work calendar each year and display a copy somewhere visible in every workplace.
That calendar lists the workplace's national, regional and local holidays, its working hours and how working time is spread across the year. It has to match the annual hours in your collective agreement (convenio colectivo) and what later goes into your mandatory time records (registro de jornada).
Your work calendar, loaded and applied for you
Cleverfy loads the national, regional and local holidays for each calendar's municipality and applies them to schedules, time tracking and annual leave at the workplaces you assign it to. If you have workplaces in several regions, each one gets its own calendar.
