Each island's own holiday
The Canary Islands' holiday decree adds one holiday on each island, which brings every employee to 12 national and regional holidays. In 2027 they all fall on weekdays, so the working days and hours on this page already account for your island's holiday. Canary Islands Day, 30 May, falls on a Sunday in 2027 and is not on the BOE list.

Holidays on a weekend
In the Canary Islands, 1 May (Labour Day) and 25 December (Christmas Day) fall on a Saturday. If you work Monday to Friday, you lose those holidays unless your employer gives you the days back. In several collective disputes in 2026, Spain's National High Court (Audiencia Nacional) recognised the right to a day off in lieu in this situation. The rulings can still be appealed and the Supreme Court has yet to settle the issue. We cover this in whether you get a day back when a holiday falls on a Saturday.
Assumption Day (15 August) falls on a Sunday, so the holiday moves to Monday 16 August.
Bridge days
Monday 11 October and Tuesday 7 December are working days sandwiched between two days off (bridge days, or puentes). If your company decides to give staff those days off, put them in the work calendar from the start.
Local holidays
Every municipality in the Canary Islands also has up to 2 local holidays, set by its town council. They are not in the BOE (Spain's Official State Gazette) but in the regional or provincial official gazette, usually published in the last few months of the previous year. Add the ones for the municipality where each workplace is based, not where the company is registered.
Working days and hours in 2027
Start from the 251 working days in the Canary Islands in 2027, then take off the 2 local holidays, if they fall on weekdays, and about 22 days of annual leave (the 30 calendar days in Article 38 of Spain's Workers' Statute usually work out at 22 working days). That leaves 227 working days.
On a full-time 40-hour week of five 8-hour days, that comes to 1,816 hours a year. Compare this with the annual hours set in your collective agreement (convenio colectivo). If your total is higher, you will need to give extra days off or shorten the working day to make up the difference.
Your work calendar, loaded and applied for you
Cleverfy loads the national, regional and local holidays for each calendar's municipality and applies them to schedules, time tracking and annual leave at the workplaces you assign it to. If you have workplaces in several regions, each one gets its own calendar.
